CONGREGATIONAL AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT MINISTRY TEAM - CCEMT

Redeemer has structured our ministry teams so that all members are welcome to join in any ministry activity. If you are a member of Redeemer you are automatically a member of CCEMT. We meet monthly after a Sunday service (usually the second Sunday of the month) to review past activities and brainstorm on upcoming events.

refugee RESETTLEMENT MISSION

"Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters. Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers for by doing that some have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it."

Hebrews 13: 1-2

With joy, courage, and faith, Redeemer U.C.C. members have joined with five other local U.C.C. churches to form The Refugee Resettlement Project of Waukesha County (RRPWC). The team is composed of 15 to 18 members who attend monthly meetings and have direct contact with the families we work with.

Lutheran Social Services is the conduit for our group, and they provide the introductions to the families that we work with. LSS assists in finding the families' basic furnishings, but RRPWC quickly works to identify what is still needed in the home and the churches work together to provide those items. Clothing, groceries, laundry supplies, and repairs are a few of the items we provide. However, it is our work as advocates for the families with landlords, doctors and hospitals, and employers that is especially important as they adjust to their new lives learning to speak a new language and living in a foreign country far from the culture they knew.

Repeatedly, the families have offered their heartfelt thanks to all of the churches who have worked together to provide assistance, monetary and emotional support as well as friendship. They always give us...and therefore the members of Redeemer...their blessings!

"For through God, all things are possible."

Matthew 19:26

KID'S MINISTRIES

At Redeemer, children are an important part of the worshiping and learning community and are encouraged to participate in worship. There is a special time for The Child In All Of Us during the Sunday service. Children are invited forward and adults are encouraged to accompany children who may be cautious. Supervised nursery care is available for children under the age of 3 during Sunday worship. In the nursery are toys, a rocking chair, and a changing table. If you’d prefer to sit by the fireplace or let your toddler explore the Great Hall (the gathering space outside of the sanctuary), the Sunday worship service is broadcast there as well.

During the year the children participate in various community and national ministry projects, such as the collection of medical supplies for use in Africa.

Redeemer Cemetery

The Redeemer UCC Cemetery is a small and intimate location, sited against the backdrop of a quiet mature woodland.

It is located just north of downtown Sussex, WI, on Maple Avenue. Despite its tenure, the Cemetery has plots for sale; many individual grave sites remain, as well as some traditional Family Plots (each with space for up to four standard casket burials). Prices are reasonable for church members, and perpetual care through the church is assured. Cremated remains or full burials are acceptable.

History

Redeemer UCC's Cemetery comes out of the merger of Redeemer's two founding churches as it had belonged to the Zion Church of Sussex. It was established in 1890 when one of the church members, August Mindemann, donated the property to the church for this purpose. It has been in use ever since. In 2002 the Cemetery was recognized by the Waukesha County Historical Society and the site has a historical marker posted describing its story to visitors. Several graves also have markers from the U.S. Veterans Administration recognizing military service.
